Sublimation starts with your artwork printed onto transfer paper with dye based ink. The paper and the garment go into a heat press, and at temperature the dye turns to gas and bonds with the polyester fibers. When it cools, the color is part of the fabric.
Because nothing sits on top of the garment there is no hand feel, no cracking and no peeling. It is the method for jerseys and performance wear, and the only one that prints edge to edge across seams for a true all-over design.
The trade-off is the fabric. Sublimation needs polyester, and it needs a white or light base, because the dye adds color and cannot add white. For cotton or dark garments we move you to screen printing, DTG or DTF, and we say so on the quote.

Does sublimation work on cotton?
No. The dye bonds with polyester. On cotton it washes out. For cotton tees we point you to screen printing or direct to garment, and we say so on the quote.
Can you sublimate dark garments?
Sublimation needs a white or light base, because the dye adds color and cannot add white. For dark garments, DTG or DTF is the right call.
Will the print crack or peel?
No. There is no ink layer sitting on the fabric. The color is in the fibers, so it never cracks, peels or changes the hand of the garment.
What is sublimation best for?
Team uniforms, jerseys, performance wear and any design that runs edge to edge across seams. If the artwork covers the whole garment, this is the method.
